May at Wallsend Manor

May 2025 was a month filled with heartfelt celebrations, special visitors, and joyful community spirit here at Wallsend Manor. From guide dogs to rock and roll dancers, every week brought moments of connection, laughter, and reflection for our residents, families and staff.

We kicked off the month with a very special guest: Ike, a 14-month-old guide dog in training. Accompanied by his wonderful trainer Lindy, Ike brightened the day with tail wags, cuddles and endless charm. His visit reminded us all of the importance of companionship, connection, and the simple joys a puppy can bring. We’re incredibly grateful to Guide Dogs Australia for making this heartwarming moment possible.

On International Nurses Day, we celebrated the compassion, dedication, and tireless care of our incredible nursing team. Residents and staff came together to acknowledge the role our nurses play every day in supporting not just physical health, but emotional wellbeing too. It was a day filled with gratitude and admiration.

Mid-month brought the joy of live music and some familiar faces. Our friend Ken returned to share an afternoon of entertainment that had residents smiling and singing along.

We also witnessed a touching personal moment as resident Jill welcomed her new family member, Kate. It was a reminder of how family, in all its forms, continues to grow within the Manor.

On 21 May, we proudly hosted Wallsend Manor’s Biggest Morning Tea in support of the Cancer Council. Residents, staff, and families gathered to enjoy home-baked treats, share memories, and raise funds for a cause close to many hearts. The event was streamed live for loved ones to join in from afar, creating a beautiful moment of unity and purpose.

To wrap up the month, we turned back the clock for a spectacular Rock and Roll Day on 28 May. The Over 50s Rock & Roll Dancers brought infectious energy and fun, inspiring many of our residents to tap along or take to the floor. Lunch followed in our “rockin’ café”, complete with mini hotdogs, burger sliders, and a nostalgic serve of apple crumble.

The joy didn’t stop there — in the afternoon, the Newcastle Vintage Car Club rolled in with a stunning line-up of classic cars. Residents reminisced over milkshakes and sundaes, swapped stories from “the good old days,” and even went for a spin around the block — including one unforgettable ride for Jack, who had his wish granted in true retro style.

May was a month of shared joy, surprises, and deep connection — everything we strive for at Wallsend Manor. Thank you to all our visitors, families, and community partners who made it so special.
